Tel Aviv-based designer Ori Ravgad created three unique objects for his graduation project that explore the art of wood veneer. Taking inspiration from the ancient technique of rolling sushi, he created the Paipu (pipe in Japanese) Wood Technique, where wooden pipes are compressed in custom-made molds to create a custom wood veneer.
These wooden pipes create a new dimension of casting. Using a rolling wooden pipe method, the resulting wood veneer is a unified, full surface in consistent waves, vs. the perspective layers resulting from lamination. The three objects that exemplify this new wooden pipe technique consist of a light fixture, stool, and swing, and are named “Object on a Roll.”
