I never usually need an excuse to visit Ikea. Who can resist having a nosy round their latest products and stocking up on a few reasonably priced essentials (hello, yet more photo frames and plant pot holders). I ALWAYS come away with more than I went in for. And the latest collaboration between everybody’s favourite store and Martin Bergström (Swedish fashion and textile designer) has me planning my next trip sooner, rather than later.
Main image: tray table, £40, decorative bottle, £6.50. This image: Posters, £2.
For the new SVÄRTAN collection Martin has taken inspiration from objects that are often overlooked, encouraging us all to see beauty in the seemingly mundane. And he has also created a contemporary image of India, using only black, white and grey shades, inviting us to explore a side of India that goes beyond the vivid colours usually associated with this striking country.
Cushion covers, £5.
It’s a collection will fit in with any number of existing decorative schemes and will have you wanting to spend just a little bit longer in your living room, feeling relaxed and surrounded by soft, monochrome textiles and naturally textured furniture.
Decorative bottle, £6.50.
‘When I came to India, the first thing I noticed was the light. But then I started seeing other things. I saw the beauty beyond the obvious: the amazing patina of surfaces, the textures of walls, patterns created by the monsoon rains.’ – Martin Bergström.
Side table/stool, £30.
Coming soon.
