A Perfectly Designed Classic English Kitchen by deVOL

I know I say it every time I share photographs of a designer kitchen, but this really is my all-time ideal classic English kitchen. It’s the combination of such a light and airy space, the flagstone floor, the pastel painted traditional cupboards and the attention to detail that make it so charming. And it’s by deVOL. Say no more. Each photograph draws you in so that you can immediately imagine living, cooking, eating, entertaining and just downright enjoying such a space.

So okay, let’s get down to the details that made such a perfect kitchen possible.

It’s position on the lower ground floor of a Victorian house is very ‘upstairs, downstairs’ but floor to ceiling crittal windows and a large skylight make the room anything but dark. Can you just imagine the beautiful stone steps leading up to a grand front door on a tree lined crescent? Well, such a grand house deserves a grand kitchen and that’s exactly what the Islington N1 kitchen is.

The Kitchen is spread out over four areas, a huge black Aga is the centre of the cooking area. It’s surrounded by base cabinets, wall cupboards and a beautiful bespoke canopy, clad with traditional tongue and groove panelling.

The simple island with beautiful, warm oak worktops houses the dishwasher, the bins, plenty of storage and a big sink paired with brass taps. Painted in a bespoke pale green colour, the island contrasts subtly with the cupboards behind it, which are all painted in deVOL’s own ‘Linen’
colour. A classic combination.

On the other side of the room is a whole stunning wall of fitted base and glazed countertop cupboards, which create a fitting, traditional style of storage for this Victorian home. The made-to-measure cupboards fit perfectly in the large alcove behind the dining table. Painted in another bespoke colour chosen by the owner, these pale blue cupboards make a statement by themselves while still complimenting the rest of this kitchen just beautifully.

Finally, a little corner of the room was designated to laundry and utility jobs. Nestled really neatly either side of the super charming fireplace was a sink area with a lovely open countertop cupboard. Just perfect for storing all those recipe books and knick-knacks from around the house. On the other side is an all-important wine rack and fridge combination, essential for entertaining; and a closed cupboard for storing all of those bits and bobs you’d prefer to keep out of sight. A handmade Laundry Maid is the finishing touch. So practical and so stylish.
