The Grid Cup, Saucer, and Spoon is a minimal design created by Alissia Melka-Techroew of byAMT for OTHR. The Grid Cup, Saucer & Spoon makes use of 3D printing technology to create a family of porcelain, gold plated, and polished silver objects that complement one another in a modern, light-hearted symmetry.
According to the designer, “the idea of grid or mesh of a tea strainer being molded into a spoon” was what first sparked the design. The result was a cup and saucer with complementary curves and a scoop whose sole purpose is to transport sugar, stir, and, in the designer’s words, “be licked when done.”
In addition, the rounded corners of the saucer’s offset tab allow users to firmly hold a hot cup of coffee or tea with ease. The twin contours of the cup and saucer mimic the soft rounded corners and edges of the spoon, whose grid makes its sole function clear.
