10 Beautiful Rooms

Starting off with a couple of stunning dark rooms this week. These belong to Cowboy Kate, purveyor of fabulous sheepskins – the sort of thing you want to drape over your kitchen chairs during the winter in that Scandinavian Hygge-ish kind of way. We are going to take a full tour of her house soon but she’s been having internet problems (comes to us all) so for now we’re going to content ourselves with these two rooms.

If you like this then check her out on instagram where she has set up a hashtag called #styleitdark. Plenty to inspire you there… like this by Nadia, who co-hosts the hashtag and has also painted her house dark. Look how beautiful it is with the dark green sofa.

Another great person to follow for inspiration is Theo-Bert Pot whose website The Nice Stuff Collector is in Dutch but includes lots of pictures of his gorgeous home and he helpfully tells you all the colours he has used. So below is studio green by Farrow and Ball, although I am currently staring at a patch of that on my bathroom wall and I can tell you that when not exposed to a camera it’s a lot darker than this.

I also love this room which is painted in peach blossom by Little Greene together with Farrow & Ball’s off black. If you want more precise details you might have to run it through google translate.

Finally for the instagram inspiration, have a look at Kerry Lockwood, who found this fabulous picture (if you know who to credit it to then let me know). I would never have thought of smoked green glass but it looks amazing in this image.

Next up we’re turning to hotels for our weekly dose of inspiration. As I’ve said before hotels often have to cram a lot into a small space and often an awkward space so they can be good places to look for ideas. My current favourite is the Hotel Providence in Paris.

Sticking with the green accents – I’m telling you navy blue is still big and blue is the colour of the year for 2017 but green is coming. Get in now and you’ll be ahead of the curve. This is the House of Hackney wallpaper with a sumptuous green throw on the bed.

Or that blue. It could be Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball or it could be Basalt by Little Greene. It’s probably something entirely different but it’s gorgeous isn’t it. If you’re into navy blue then keep an eye on the Mad House over the next week or so as I shall be making a little announcement…

And no I can’t tell you just yet but I will tell you that it’s navy blue and you can buy it/them/one… And with that I just want you to look at this gorgeous Anaglypta wallpaper above. Some of you are terrified of this wallpaper regarding it as the stuff of student house nightmares and Granny’s attic but when you paint it in a dark colour it takes on a very modern aspect that is rather cool. Don’t rule it out.

I’ll leave you with this – a monochrome scheme with a splash of green and some vintage wood. What a great colour combination. And there you have this week’s 10 Beautiful Rooms with hopefully some inspiration for your own beautiful rooms and perhaps some new people to inspire you.
