A Little Nordic Cool from Surface View

The Nordic Edit from Surface View

I completely get the Nordic look. It’s cool clean lines and restrained colour palette has a lovely calming effect on an interior. I see images on Pinterest and I want to emulate that tried-but-not-tried-too-hard aesthetic. I love the abundance of bright, white surfaces, the absence of clutter and the artfully arranged vignettes of just enough accessories. Not to mention the accents of natural materials, and the addition of lie-down-and-cover-me-up textures –  especially wool and fur.

Nordic inspired winter scene window film

‘Woodland Snow II’ Windowfilm from the Nic Miller Collection, £150.

I totally get it. Move me in and leave me the key.

Nordic style 'fresh dusting Icelandic' print on a cushion from Surface View

‘Fresh Dusting, Iceland’ Cushion from the Trunk Archive, £70.

I also love surface pattern. I like the warmth it can bring to a room. I like that it provides a focal point. A place to focus the eye on entering. A place to rest the gaze when relaxing.

Nordic inspired forest scene on a window blind

‘Forest’ Blind from Nic Miller, from £270.

And these two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive as Surface View are proving with their Nordic Edit.

Totally Nordic - black and white prints on a white panelled wall

Left to Right; ‘Sphere Shadow and Light’, ‘Normandy Bridge, France’ and ‘Tidal Channels, Wremen, Germany’ from the Trunk Archive Collection, Prints from £65.

Filled with a blend of timeless black and white photographic prints from the prestigious Trunk Archive, stunning natural landscapes from photographer, Richard Osborne and earthy surfaces from timber and concrete to brick and plaster from designer, Ella Doran, this collection showcases a fresh selection of natural and monochromatic images that encapsulate Scandinavian simplicity.

Totally Nordic - winter trees wall hanging by Nic Miller

‘Winter Trees’ Wall Hanging from the Nic Miller Collection, from £130.

This calm and muted palette (so Nordic) offers a range of creative ways to bring Scandi style to your own home without eschewing pattern. Mix contemporary pictorial murals with vintage wall charts, apply rustic panoramas to window blinds or choose graphic wall-surface imagery across a set of simple canvases or cushions for a textural twist.

Totally Nordic bleak landscape wall hanging on a white panelled wall

‘Kunak Mountain with a Fog Bank’ Wall Chart from The British Library, from £160.

The totally bespoke printing techniques also allow you to play with size, scale and surfaces so that these images can be skilfully reproduced in whichever way you choose from wall-coverings, wall-hangings and window film, to cushions, canvases, prints, lampshades and blinds.
