An Elegant Sitting Room in Pink and Blue – Get The Look

If there’s one room that gets a lot of attention at this time of the year it’s the sitting room. It’s where we’re going to be spending a lot of time over the next few months after all. And it’s the one room in the room in the house that we definitely want to look nice for visitors over the holiday season. Most of us will just be spending a few pounds on new cushions and accessories, but if you’re up for an entire room renovation let’s talk colour. I’ve noticed recently a lot more colour creeping into our interiors. Not just a splash on a feature wall either. And I’ve also noticed a lot more bravado in combining colours too. This pink and blue combination is actually quite daring believe it or not. Who would have thought a few months ago of putting sapphire blue with baby pink? Pink was normally reserved for little girls rooms and combined with other pastel shades. This particular shade of blue would normally have been paired with other shades of the same intensity. Like bottle green and aubergine. But don’t they look great together?

How to Work It

There’s a few things to remember.

1.Like keeping equal amounts of both of the main colours. Here the predominate colour is pink, with the walls and the curtains blending into each other. But adding a large item in blue (the sofa) and lots of accessories in exactly the same shade, balances it all out.

2.Don’t vary the shades of the pink or blue. Notice the accessories are the exact same shade of blue as the sofa. The walls are the same shade of pink as the curtains. This unifies everything and keeps the room looking elegant instead of eclectically messy.

3.Add in lots of black and white to keep the finished look grownup and definitely not childlike.

4.Use geometric patterns and not florals. They will add interest and will look more ‘urban’ than ‘country’.

5.Add just one item in an unexpected colour. In this case green, to prevent the scheme looking too contrived and predictable.
