Leaden Wall in White Space by Jun Murata

Leaden Wall in White Space by Jun Murata

Leaden Wall in White Space is a minimal interior located in Osaka, Japan, designed by Jun Murata. The project is a renovation of a room in an antiquated apartment with a limited budget. The site is near the downtown area of Osaka, and the client wanted to make a small room that could be used freely. Essentially, it would become a minimal 24 square meter atelier designed for his creative activities.

Steel pipes were relocated and left exposed while the concrete walls and ceiling were painted in matte white. Track lighting was utilized to maintain a minimal aesthetic. The rear part of the west side was removed and the rough-surfaced concrete is left exposed as a reminder of the former building. The surface of the concrete is painted with a transparent finish, creating a unique contrast against the white walls.

Glossy floors provide a reflection of the movements from the sky and clouds. Sheer curtains serve as a general partition to loosely separate the spaces while creating meditative movements when flowing with the breeze. The designer wanted to expand and maximize the space as much as possible while creating an awareness of the cityscape and nature.
