If you go to any events between now and the end of the year, I’d suggest putting WestEdge Design Fair on your list. The show returns to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California November 3-6, 2016.
We’re very excited to be a media partner for this show and a sponsor of the new MADE:MODERN section. MADE:MODERN features over 50 independent designers and makers from home furnishings to lighting to art, and the overall show boasts more than 150 leading manufacturers and design brands. Some exciting exhibitors at this year’s show include Missoni Home, Roche Bobois, Rich Brilliant Willing, Henredon, David Trubridge, Phloem Studio and Bend Goods.
Their opening night party, on Thursday November 3rd, is definitely a must-attend for everyone in the design community… not only has it been a blast in past years, but this year they partnered with Schwinn for a special auction: bid on custom-designed bicycles, outfitted and stylized by a designer or tastemaker to benefit Ronald McDonald House. And speaking of design for good, WestEdge has also partnered with Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) to launch the California edition of Picnic by Design, a successfully established fundraising event that they’ve done elsewhere. Architects and designers will create over-the-top picnic baskets and tables that will be displayed at the fair, and are available for purchase as part of an online auction to benefit DIFFA.
And don’t miss the talks at the Jenn-Air Master Class Studio, there are tons of educational panels and discussions happening throughout the show, including one with us on design and tech called Form, Function + Connectivity. Panelists include Steve Brown, CEO, Jenn-Air, Ken Takeuchi, Senior Customer Experience Producer, Sony and Kevin Yu, CEO & Founder, SideChef.
Plus, one of the features I’m most looking forward to is HOMEwork, a new area focused on the design of personal office spaces. We’re partially sponsoring this special new area because we believe that the way we work is dramatically shifting, and the design community should be aware of the importance of the home office and other non-traditional work environments.
And, as always, their popular outdoor lounge, presented by Roche Bobois, will feature lots of comfortable seating, fire puts, outdoor appliances, including grills (which will hopefully be cooking up some yummy treats!). A select group of grilling brands will conduct tastings and demos throughout the event, and officially go head-to-head during a Grilling Showdown competition on Saturday, November 5 at Noon (I know where I’ll be at that time!)
And if great design, charity events, and free food doesn’t convince you, how about a discount? Get $5 off using code DESIGNMILK right here.
