When deVOL first revealed their new ‘Curiosity Cabinet’ it sparked for me all manner of creative uses. In fact this is what I said…
“As a standalone piece it would look beautiful in any room. In fact, as it’s available in a number of standard sizes and colour-ways, why not have one in the study filled with books and knick-knacks too. And one in the bathroom filled with towels and toiletries. And one in the bedroom filled with handbags and shoes. Just the sparkly ones. The list is absolutely endless.”
And it seems I wasn’t the only one who was inspired to move this beautiful piece of furniture out of the kitchen. Its unique style has caught the eye of some of the biggest names in interiors, including British style icon, Pearl Lowe. After working with deVOL to create her dream kitchen, Pearl decided that not one, but two of cupboards would be the perfect addition to her fabulously glamorous dining room.
And with her own inimitable style she has paired the black and pink cabinets with floral wallpaper by House of Hackney, vintage tableware, old lace, a fringed standard lamp, a crystal chandelier and wonderfully quirky accessories. The symmetrical arrangement works perfectly, and the black painted wooden door and dado rail both further highlight the traditional-meets-modern style.
As it’s opened by lock and key, this glazed freestanding cupboard is perfect for displaying your most precious curiosities. From quirky keepsakes to your favourite crockery and glassware. And it’s all out of reach of sticky fingers and (in my home at least) wagging tails. It’s also quite an unusual feature to have both sections glass-fronted; a feature that allows larger items like big copper pans or bundles of pretty linens to be stored in the base cupboard whilst smaller more delicate pieces can be displayed on top.
“The Curiosity Cupboard is a piece of furniture that really lends itself to any situation, whatever goes inside these beautiful glazed doors instantly becomes a little more special. The inspiration for these cupboards came from museum cabinets and whether you have rare old artefacts or everyday things of humble origin to store and display, they will become even more admired in such a handsome home.” – says Helen Parker, Creative Director at deVOL Kitchens. I couldn’t agree more.
The Curiosity Cupboard is available in three sizes and prices start from £1,800.
