Zodiac: A Hexagonal, Modular Display System

Zodiac: A Hexagonal, Modular Display System

Luca Nichetto, of Nichetto Studio, designed a clever and playful, multifunctional display system for Zaozuo that’s based on a hexagonal framework. Called Zodiac, the modular system can be configured in multiple ways when using multiple units to form somewhat of a wall constellation.

Various polyurethane accessories are designed to attach to the framework for functionality, including mirrors, coat hooks, and shelving. Zodiac is available in black or white.

A Semi-Detached House in Belgium

A Semi-Detached House in Belgium

Hired by a couple who love travel, sports, and books, Studio K renovated a semi-detached house near the center of Leuven, Belgium. The clients longed to brighten up the once-dark home so an extension was added with a courtyard in the middle to ensure light passed through the entire interior.

The addition was designed with exposed plywood panels, beams, and columns, which is juxtaposed with the black furnishings and finishes.

The kitchen hides away behind white sliding doors and when they’re open, the black backsplash and dark stained cabinets are revealed. The cabinet wall also disguises the door to the master bedroom.

Cottage Stools by Dino Sanchez

Cottage Stools by Dino Sanchez

Artist and designer, Dino Sanchez, has this way of designing simple products out of wood that are extraordinarily beautiful. His latest is the Cottage Stool, a design meant to be sat on or for resting objects that has a minimalist, organic aesthetic. Each stool is sourced and made entirely in the USA and is marked as a numbered edition.

Sanchez created the stools as part of the 703 Cottage Project, which explores design and takes inspiration from coastal living in Cape May, New Jersey. The space will be guiding new designs for their collection, as well as one-of-a-kid pieces.

SATELLITE: A Minimal, Marble Lamp

SATELLITE: A Minimal, Marble Lamp

60-year-old Belgian company Van Den Weghe recently changed directions and decided to collaborate with designers and architects to create a new furniture and accessory collection called Van Den Weghe ITEMS. One of the first designers on board was Quentin de Coster, who began work on a series of lamps that focus on the qualities of marble as a material, as the company had been known for their natural stone.

After de Coster visited to the company, he was inspired to design the minimal SATELLITE, a lamp that joins two basic cylinders together. A LED tube bulb fits within a notched out section of the marble to create a simple table lamp in either black or white.

Tables With Bent Plywood Bases by Mario Tsai

Tables With Bent Plywood Bases by Mario Tsai

Plywood is not often a first choice when it comes to designer furniture, but Mario Tsai designed the Press Tables based on how easily it can bend. On its own plywood can be weak, but when it’s bent and joined together it becomes strong and that’s the idea behind the design. Tsai designed the tables to be assembled by the user simply by bending and attaching the plywood to the included metal rings.

Due to the flat nature of the plywood, the tables can be shipped flat-packed. Plywood is also fairly inexpensive, meaning costs for production and delivery are reduced.
