Books: Decorate for a Party Review

Party planning at its most inspirational

Decorate for a Party by Holly Becker and Leslie Shewring is the latest offering in the ‘decorate’ saga. Holly has so far helped us decorate our homes in two mighty tomes, and with the help of Leslie has helped us decorate with flowers. Now it’s time to throw a party. Yayy. And if it’s inspiration you need to turn a shin-dig into a memorable occasion, without spending a fortune, look no further.

This book is jam-packed with tips, tricks and absolutely stunning images for all kinds of parties. From backyard soirees, to intimate bridal showers, to significant birthdays and girlfriend get-togethers. No occasion is too small for a party. I think we’ll all agree on that?

If you felt so inclined you could just choose one of the party themes devised by these too talented ladies and run with it. My favourites are the New and Romantic theme (see first image above) which is relaxed and feminine and perfect for a party with the girls, the Warm and Cosy theme which would be lovely for a more autumnal inspired gathering, and the Fresh and Modern theme which uses tropical foliage to set the scene.

And the best thing of all, is that each idea looks like you have put much more effort into it than you actually have.

No scrap that. The best thing of all about the book is that Holly and Leslie share with their readers how they approach party planning. Choosing a theme is the easy bit, but with tips on how to gather inspiration and then set the scene, you can plan your own themed party in no time. Right down to lighting, playlists, hostess gifts, colours and patterns, food ideas, wall decorations and DIY ideas.

So, if after reading this book if you don’t have a party in the pipeline, you’ll probably be planning one anyway.
