10 Beautiful Rooms

Ten Beautiful Rooms to start the week off with a dose of house envy interiors inspiration – something to add to that scrap book of ideas which, if you’re anything like me, is always percolating in the background. We’re starting with kitchens this week. This one below is probably a little to rustic for my taste but I like the colour combinations – black and white with lots of natural wood. Always works, always a classic.

Next up, similar colours but a look that is a little more refined. I have a particular interest in this table by NORR11 as I expect to be taking delivery of mine in the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see it and I love how it looks with the black chairs. You’ll be seeing lots of it when it finally gets here.

Change of pace as this pretty pink bath caught my eye this week on instagram. As you know, we are planning a bathroom update  – mainly because the shower has broken so we are taking the opportunity to change the decor too. We have discussed panelling but decided against in in the bathroom there are tiles and windows and a fireplace and it might look like there is too much going on. However the bedroom is still in discussion.

Talking of bathrooms, note the tiles in these two pictures. I can’t understand why patterned tiles aren’t more of a thing. They can be used in so many ways – look at the image below where they have been used behind a wood burning stove – and there are so many variations and ways of laying them that it’s a like a work of art.

I love these zig zag tiles but in the image below that same pattern has been used on the cushions to add interest. The moral of the story is more pattern, basically. But, as I’m not one for a huge riot of colour, more monochrome pattern is probably the moral of my story.

This room below is perhaps my favourite this week. I know that we can’t, in real life, have a creased linen table cloth falling off the table but it looks great in the picture and you could straighten it for dinner. But it’s the mix of pale linen, black and wooden chairs and the natural floorboards. You can buy a very similar lamp to the black one from Dowsing and Reynolds and the glass one from Rockett St George.

It’s been a while since I saw a Ron Arad bookworm shelf and I’d forgotten how cool they were. Another good way, like the tiles, of bringing an unexpected element into a room. In this case, the humble bookshelf itself becomes the art. For those of you who haven’t seen them before you fix it to the wall in whatever shape you want. It bends without losing any strength.

The next two pictures show a black and white and grey and white scheme with splashes of, well I was going to call it pink but I think it’s basically brown isn’t it. Looks great though. Not the obvious choice. Worth a go.

Finally back to the bedroom. We are discussing panelling, which probably won’t happen, but also just how dark to go. The bathroom (en suite – hate that word) is probably going to be Farrow and Ball studio green so the bedroom will probably be paler. But then again I may bottle the ultra dark bathroom and decide to do that pale grey/silver and the bedroom dark. In which case the panelling comes back into play. What do you think?

We could do panelling halfway up or just paint to half way up, which would be easier. Or we could really go for it like the room below. I am wracked with indecision people. Wracked. I tell you.
