Cane webbing and cane furniture in general usually evokes visions of the classic colonial interior. Particularly steamy Victorian conservatories with tiled floors, giant palms and a table set for afternoon tea. Actually, that’s still a look I love. Especially the afternoon tea ritual. And cane furniture has always been used for the garden or garden room. It’s lightweight for starters so it’s easily moved around, it’s airy, and it can withstand a downpour or a bit of damp. But barring the odd bentwood cafe chair, and a bit of a resurgence for seventies fashions, it’s popularity has waned in interiors in recent years. But no more! Cane webbing is all over the shop. You can still purchase furniture that harks back to that colonial era (used in a contemporary way it won’t jar with modern items) but there are lots of examples of this ancient craft in newer shapes and styles too. Whichever style you choose you won’t be spoilt for choice.
