My trip to India in 2017 may be a distant memory now, but the colours, vibrancy and mystique of that country has been indelibly etched on my brain. So when I saw a company I hadn’t noticed before that celebrates the magic of India in brilliant colour, I had to take a closer look.
The Ana Jana Collection
The Story
Chandan Whittle was launched in 2016, but the story dates back 50 years to when her parents first emigrated to the UK. From a young age they inspired her through music, traditions, and her mother’s cooking. All of which left her hungry to learn more about her Indian heritage. And so, the vision for her colourful designs was born. Taking her on a journey to discover not only her heritage, but also relive her childhood memories and learn more about her parents lives growing up in India.
The Bindi Collection
The Designs
The vibrant designs are certainly unique conversation starters for design lovers who seek to brighten their home. And there’s something for everyone, from bright yellows to cool blues, bold geometrics to organic florals. The colours and patterns create a fresh, modern look. Adding a pop to crisp whites in the bedroom, or inviting guests into an Instagram-worthy living room.
The Keya Lumbar Collection
The Inspiration
Behind each collection of pillows and prints there’s a meaning connected to rich Indian heritage. The Bindi Collection is inspired by the traditional bindi, or the third chakra (the third eye), which marks a married woman. The Keya Lumbar Collection is inspired by vibrant Indian summer florals. And Taara Collection is inspired by the lively energy of India where chaos inspires design.

The Designer
As a graduate from Goldsmiths University with a degree in design, Kam Chandan followed the career path as an Art Director in London, Dublin and New York. While she honed her craft in the advertising industry, her passion for design was reignited with the launch of Chandan Whittle.
Her desire to create products that celebrate culture, diversity, and craftsmanship serves as an outlet to flex her experience and knowledge of design. To her, it’s important to honor her family’s life experience in their native India. It’s equally important to honor the local artisans by creating more reliable opportunities to earn a decent income through traditional craftsmanship. Which in turn gives their families a better start in life.
