Moodboard Monday – A Sunroom Scheme with Colonial Influences

This is a scheme I put together some time ago for a couple I know. And one of these days I’ll get round to getting some ‘after’ photographs. That’s the problem with just putting together schemes for a client to install themselves. No ‘after’ photographs! But I do know it’s done, so I’ll take that as a successful design.

It’s not actually a sunroom at all but two adjacent rooms in a converted old barn. The two halves of the space are completely different. One half has no windows, a stone fireplace and lots of beams. The other half (seen through beams that would have been a solid wall at some point), is light and airy with large windows onto the courtyard. It was obvious that the two halves of the space would be used at different times of the day and probably at different times of the year, but ultimately they both had to work together decoratively as one large entertaining space. The other problem with furnishing them as separate rooms was a danger of ending up with a space resembling a furniture showroom. The solution was to pull together a coherent scheme using an eclectic assortment of seating, and small tables to rest drinks on. And a lot of accessories that would look at home in a sunroom with colonial influences. In other words, large palms, carved wood, indian textiles, natural materials, botanical prints and a large daybed as a centrepiece.
