Designer Donghoon Sohn, founder of Atelier Sohn, became inspired by his memories of Lake Geneva where he spent time while working on a project with Hotel Des Trois Couronnes during his schooling. The result of those memories brings together glass and copper to become the Wave Tray. The piece was designed to hold jewelry within its rippled glass surface, which mimics the natural undulation of water.
A photograph of the lake, with sunlight reflecting off the water’s surface, was transferred to 3D data based on the color information from the picture. A glass mold was made based on that data creating a disc of glass with wave-like surfaces. The glass rests atop a copper stand turning it into a luxe, sculptural moment for your valuables to rest.
As light hits the tray, it intensifies the shadows really giving it the feeling of water rippling in a body of water.
