Now that the summer is truly here, comes the desire to get away and do something different. Sometimes it’s a sandy beach that I crave. Sometimes the thrill of exploring a foreign city. And sometimes I just want to kick back and enjoy a simpler life. Not for ever. Just a few days.
This hand-crafted wagon house is the stuff of dreams for a short break exploring the countryside and coast of one of our country’s loveliest counties (Cornwall). It’s been thoughtfully put together with a mixture of up-cycled materials, original hand-crafted furnishings, heavy linens and homely textiles. Nothing looks too precious. It resembles a much-loved family retreat – visited year after year –with age old traditions of board games and days at the beach on the agenda. Familiar and comforting.
It promises long weekends of sinking into the comfy bed with a pile of Sunday papers. Or a lazy afternoon siesta before watching the sun go down from the comfort of a covered porch. Not to mention star-watching while waiting for the marshmallows to warm on the brazier. Country walks, salty air, and browsing in country boutiques.
Not that you’d be without home comforts. The king-size bedroom with luxurious en suite bathroom boasts not only a roll-top bathtub, but a double walk-in shower which has more than enough space for two.
And don’t be fooled by its rustic appearance, it has a fully equipped kitchen, is centrally heated and has a utility room with a washing machine and dryer. Just what you need after a dip in the sea or a long muddy walk.
Plus, if you can’t live without technology, there is not just a TV, but Sonos multi-room speakers, a DVD player, an iPad Air, a Nespresso coffee machine and wifi internet. Well, who wants to be without coffee and wifi?
And my favourite aspect? That comfy porch with its assortment of hand-me-down furniture, squashy cushions, warm throws and a spectacular view.
I might never leave.
