This romantic self-catering cottage by the sea is blissfully tucked away in Coverack Cove, commanding breath-taking sea views of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Oh, to be there now. Enjoying the long summer days, sultry evenings, and late sunsets of this stunning county. And if the weather turns, as it often does, where better to cosy up than this cosy cottage? With its charming amalgamation of vintage glamour and bohemian free-spiritedness, it really is the idyllic beachside haven for getting away from it all.
I’m sure I wouldn’t mind doing the washing up in the charming blue-painted kitchen. Just look at the view! Don’t be put off by the Aga (it’s electric) and reassuringly this kitchen has all the modern day essentials including a microwave and washing machine. But its contents have been carefully chosen to reflect the ‘simple thatched cottage aesthetic’ as well as some more eclectic accessories adorning the walls.
And this cottage may have the typical small windows (still with that view!) and archetypal log burner (fantastic for chilly nights) but it also has its fair share of glamorous furnishings.
Where else would you find a well-stocked bar-cart in a country cottage I ask? Or brass palm tree lamps? Or exotic coral side-by-side with fisherman’s lanterns?
The unifying element is the deep cobalt blue that covers the walls, the kitchen cabinets, and some of the soft furnishings. This is a seaside colour but not as we know it. Not for this cottage the pastel blue normally associated with seaside homes. This shade of blue is deep and enveloping. It creates a cosyness that will make you want to sink into the claw-foot tub and not emerge for days. Or climb into the comfy bed and stay there until it’s time to go home.
But please don’t do that. There’s too much to see. The friendly hub of the village is just up the road offering a local shop, ice cream parlour, church, art gallery and a handful of eateries. Hidden in ‘Sunny Corner’, the cottage is just a gentle amble away from Coverack’s gorgeous sandy beach, so morning jogs along the shoreline and long coastal walks ending at a Cornish pub are a must.
And the pretty gardens offer a dramatic setting for al fresco dining. Following a dip in the sea before sunset, fry up a fish supper and watch the stars begin to pinprick the sky from the comfort of your private beachside cottage retreat.
