We came across Lábrica’s work while in Guatemala checking out the Simbiótica exhibition and immediately loved their work. The family-owned company works with traditional craftsman in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, a small town near Antigua Guatemala, to make their modern wares, ensuring that each piece is of the highest quality. With a growing collection, we decided to take a second look.
The Boton series of tables are inspired by brass buttons and cufflinks. Each of the three tables has a different top and base and can be modified to become a coffee table or dining table.
The DD Console features simple lines through a series a stacked storage boxes.
The Levita Chest looks as if its storage drawers are levitating with the help of its geometric structure, which was inspired by indigenous Guatemala textiles.
The Levita Desk complements the above Chest with its similar levitating design and traditional patterned structure.
Also with simple lines, the Bodega Console features shapes that mimic those of storage buildings known in Spanish as “bodegas”.
The Baston Chair references a gentleman’s cane for inspiration and features soft curves and a simple silhouette.
The Maso Chair was designed for a restaurant in Miami Beach and its simple lines can be easily incorporated into most any setting.
The Capirucho Stools and Side Tables were inspired by a Guatemalan toy and their varying silhouettes can be highlighted with colorful bands.
