Cristina Celestino designed a capsule collection of furniture for renowned Italian glass furniture makers, Tonelli Design. Opalina includes a dressing table, a writing desk, a mirror, a coat stand, and a stool, which feature muted translucent colors, rounded edges, and unique joints.
The history of the collection is based on the word ‘opaline’, which up until the 19th century, referred to an off-white rose color. Then, the antiques world adopted the name for both the color and the material of the object – opal crystal – before eventually using it in a broader sense to include color variations. Celestino now expands on the term to include her glass furniture that’s made of thick, etched and painted glass that results in a translucent, silky finish.
