Merging modern graphic design elements with the basics of the suprematism art movement, designer Sergey Lvov created the KUBIS collection of lamps as a way to shape a new idea. Whether you’re saying it, typing it or reading it, WTF is a pretty common term these days and quadrangles, circles, and crosses were the focus of that early 20th century art style, leading Lvov to take both of these two-dimensional ideas and turn them into three-dimensional realities.
Kasimir Malevich’s 1916 painting, Suprematic Composition, is fairly noted as the representation of suprematism, which is what inspired the lamps. With table, floor, and hanging varieties, the quirky lamps bring design ideas that are 100 years apart and find a way to make them work together.
