This Sebastian Cox Kitchen by deVOL is owned by a couple who have a website called Ingredients LDN, an online shop selling ‘natural products for a natural home’. They chose this particular kitchen to encapsulate what their company stands for, and as a place to photograph their beautifully curated wares. But more importantly as a calm and simply stunning kitchen for their home.
The owners have transformed what used to be a tiny little kitchen in a beautiful old Georgian apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland, into this ethereal and spacious kitchen and living space. They knocked down walls and restored the property’s old proportions. Along the way they fixed the original cornicing, and they added a fabulous little window seat in the shuttered window.
This is the first Sebastian Cox Kitchen to be completely finished in a ‘Natural’ tint which suits the room perfectly. It’s a happy change from the dark ‘Inky Blue Black’ we are used to seeing. In fact, almost all deVOL cupboards are painted, it’s what they are best known for and what they have been making and perfecting over the last 30 years, but with the Sebastian Cox Kitchen range they experimented with something a little different. A subtle tint, a quiet wash of colour, a thin dye rather than a thick coat of paint which allows the magnificent texture of the band-sawn English beech to stay visible.
This is also the very first movable Sebastian Cox island. The owners use their home as a backdrop for photo-shoots, so it was very important that this piece could be easily moved around the place. It sits on brass castors, which were carefully sourced and even hand-aged in-house to give the perfect worn finish.
Intermingling with Ingredients LDN homeware pieces are a few handmade deVOL home products too which provide the perfect finishing touches. A crackle glaze pendants hangs delicately from the ceiling, a porcelain light with switch and plug makes a handy and stylish movable light, and the aged brass rails with matching ‘S’ hooks are the best spot to hang everything and anything. And let’s not forget the iconic deVOL aged brass taps!
Photographs were taken and styled by Nina Plummer from ‘INGREDIENTS LDN’.
