This barn conversion holiday-let, dates back to the 16th Century (is Grade-II listed) and has been lovingly restored to retain its original features. The owners have used nature as the main point of inspiration for its interior, and they have added heavy textures and muted colours to create a charming and romantic get-away oozing with rusticity. And just to add to its charm it’s in the heart of the Malvern Hills, wrapped in 16 gloriously green acres of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It even has a cute name – Wishbone – and I couldn’t think of a nicer place to unwind for a few days with a loved one.
Take a Look
All of the original timbers, stone walls and vaulted truss ceilings have been retained, including that beautiful brick floor. Heavy curtains frame the barn doors and the view, and a wood burning stove promises cosy nights in. As do the plentiful throws and cushions. Note the farm implements used as decoration on the walls. A nice touch and a reminder of the barns past history. That’s if you can drag your eyes away from the rolling countryside view.
The owners choice of furnishings is equally simple and rustic. A rusty clock, an old sewing machine table, a scrubbed wood table and mismatched chairs, and plain glass jars all vie for attention.
The kitchen is tucked under the stairs to the hayloft and continues the rustic theme. But rest assured, it is a luxury cottage. There is a Everhot Range cooker, fridge, small freezer, slimline dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and washing machine. It’s just well hidden.
Separated from the kitchen by another heavy curtain is the double bedroom, where the king-size bed is dressed in fresh white linens.
The en-suite shower room does not disappoint either with it’s re-purposed wash stand, sweet little window and distressed floor and mirror frame.
In fact every corner of this lovely barn has been considered and made comfortable with thoughtful touches. And for those that can’t live without Netflix, a DVD player, an iPod dock
and Wi-Fi, it’s all here but out of sight.
But my favourite room has to be the hayloft. Perfect for reading a book, having a nap or again, just gazing out the wooden door which swings open to the wilderness.
