A Victorian Semi That Has Been Decorated With Fearless Drama

Instagram is such a rich source of interiors inspiration, and this atmospheric conversion of a Victorian semi had me at first glance. The owner is Nadia (@nadscasa1@nadscasa1) who does not have a background in design or interiors but she has renovated and decorated her home with a fearless mix of everything she loves. There’s just so much to look at! She admits that she doesn’t sit still often so I can just imagine the tweaking and rearranging that goes on, on a daily basis. And her favourite shops are my favourite shops so it’s no wonder I love this dark and dramatic home so much.

Look and Learn

1. Your home is beautiful. Tell us a bit about the four walls. What kind of house/apartment is it? What made you fall in love with it, or did you choose it for practical considerations first and foremost?

I live in a 5 bedroom Victorian corner house, semi detached. I stumbled across the house by chance whilst viewing other houses in the area and fell in love with it pretty much straight away even though it had been badly converted into two flats. I loved the layout, the huge bay windows, the light and space, and knew immediately it had the potential to become a beautiful family home again.

2. What work have you done to the place to make it your own? Are you a serial decorator or have you finished?

I’ve transformed the house completely. Firstly reconverted it back from two flats into a house. I’ve had the whole house rewired, new roof, stripped all the floorboards, rebuilt the kitchen, opened up all the fireplaces which had been mostly smashed and covered in, and generally renovated the whole house. I’m a serial decorator and never truly finished, the house just keeps on evolving, I always have a project on the go and something else I want to change.

3. How would you describe your own interior design aesthetic and where do you find the inspiration for the things you decide to do?

My style is eclectic bohemian and quite dramatic I’ve come to realise. I like atmospheric design and take inspiration from colour, textures and textiles. Sometimes I have no idea what I’m creating and can build a whole room around a single thing like a picture or a chair.

4. What tips do you have for anyone starting from scratch? How do they create a home that is uniquely their own.

I always buy what I like and never think about where it will go or what it will go with. If you’re creating a unique home that’s your own, I think it’s really important to be fearless and to take inspiration from things you love without being overly influenced by others

5. I know how long it takes to collect all the layers that go towards making a house a home. Where do you find all of your lovely things? Are there any go-to sources/shops that you can share?

I shop all over but do have favourite places such as Rockett St George, Graham and Green, Cox and Cox, Homesense, Dwell and Abigail Aherne which is where most of my faux cacti/plants come from. I’m always mooching around vintage shops and flea markets and of course eBay, you’d be amazed at some of the beautiful things I’ve found in junk shops and on eBay.

6. Can you tell us a bit about your day job and how it influences your design decisions?

I’m the Practice Manager for a hospital Social Work Team which is a very structured role really. I used to go to art college so decorating has become a bit of a creative outlet for me and although I don’t take inspiration from my role I certainly take influence from some of the colourful characters I meet in my work.

7. If you had a day at home with no work to do, and no social media to catch up on, how would you spend it?

All my days at home are spent creating, whether it be the alteration of a room, the transformation of a piece of fabric, the cooking of a delicious meal or the beautifying of the garden. I’m not someone that sits still for long and am happiest when I’m actively making or doing something rewarding.

8. What’s next? Do you have any decorating projects brewing?

Yes, I have two rooms i want to do, the hallway and the loft conversion. The hallway’s a mammoth job as the house sits on 3 floors and there’s so much of it so I think I’ll start with the loft conversion 🙂
