If you favor seating that invites you to sit down and sink in, then you’re definitely going to want to meet Mullit from Sancal. Created by multidisciplinary creative studio Yonoh, designers Clara del Portillo and Alex Selma started with the idea of creating a “cushion with legs”. The result is this simple yet functional design for Sancal that doesn’t slack on the details that make for an exceptionally well-thought-out piece of furniture.
“At Mullit we wanted to get a chair that combined aesthetics and comfort. Somehow, we wanted to transfer the feeling of comfort we have when sitting on a cushion to a chair without losing ergonomic needs. Volumes and weights plays a visual effect in a very functional product,” said Yonoh.
You might think that a chair claiming to be mostly cushion would feel unbalanced, but that’s not the case at all. The sheer volume of Mullit’s seat and back are wonderfully offset by the height of its lengthy legs. To further add to the effect of cushy comfort, a subtle ruffle was added to its back, as well as a flange as a nod to more traditional scatter cushions.
But what’s comfort without options? Mullit is available in a wide range of textiles and bases that contribute to the versatility of the chair. Choose between toothpick-like wooden legs, minimalist metal legs, or electrolytic plated legs with real flair to make this piece match your space’s personality.
Somehow Mullit manages to pull off the ultimate casual chic aesthetic. Learn more about it in the video below, as well as on Sancal.com.
