Moodboard Monday – Scheme for a Nature Inspired Hallway

I’ve been working over the weekend (I know, I know, no rest for the wicked) on a scheme to bring some life and personality into a bland and boring hall and stairway. Well, that was the brief. Work has already begun on the basics. New engineered wood flooring has been laid, including on the stairs, and it looks amazing with the white painted risers. The internal doors have also been changed to doors with glass, as the downstairs hall especially was very dark and dingy. Which just left, wallpaper, paint and accessories to be sourced.

The client had already stated a preference for wallpaper on the stair wall and the Cole and Son woodland wallpaper was a no-brainer. It will look fabulous on such a long drop and she chose the version with gold pears. Hence the subtle nature-inspired scheme. There are such a lot of walls so we are going to break them up with two paint colours. The dark grey will go on the wall facing you as you enter the door. Upstairs and downstairs. You’ll not see much of it when you enter so it won’t be overpowering. I wanted to make a feature at the top of the stairs but there are pesky things like light switches and a radiator, so it will be painted dark grey and we’ll hang the gold stars there. They can be hung asymmetrically so we can avoid the switches. All remaining walls will be painted an off-white to keep the overall look light.

For accessories it seemed obvious to run with the gold. There’s a gold and marble small table that will fit in a narrow recess, with a mirror above and a lamp. It has three shelves which will be handy for the wifi router in that corner. A gold coat rack, and the gold stars I’ve already mentioned. Plus some nature-inspired artwork. There’s also a couple of things not shown on the moodboard. A doormat with a black star (to echo the gold wall stars), and a goatskin that will cover the existing bench. A touch of fur will soften all of the hard edges and will be lovely to sit on when putting on shoes.
