Friday Five with Lian Eoyang of VIF Studio

This week’s Friday Five heads to San Francisco to check out the boutique design firm, VIF Studio and its founder, Lian Eoyang, who earned a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College. Launched in 2010, the company (which is currently all female!) brings a fresh perspective to modern architecture and interiors with a focus on minimalist yet comfortable spaces clients can thrive in. Her refined approach leads to visually pleasing results that are tastefully and beautifully curated for a universal appeal. Her impeccable taste carries over to her five picks, which include footwear, classic cars, a design brand, local shops, and a design aesthetic close to her heart.

1. Inspiring: Australia/New Zealand design scene. I’ve always been so inspired by the aesthetic: effortless yet refined, fresh but not contrived.

2. Inspiring: Anna Karlin’s vessels, lighting and furniture. Unexpected, refined, and an independent maker — all the traits we love.

3. Can’t live without: March and The Line, purveyors of beautiful things for the home.

4. Can’t live without: Bryr, a local maker of the most beautiful and comfortable clogs. Women-owned, made on-site, and a neighbor of VIF Studio.

5. Inspiring: Singer Vehicle Design. They re-build classic air-cooled Porsche 911s from the ground up, birthing a true work of art. I’ve always preferred classic cars, but often find them underpowered and a bit worse for wear. Singers are both heart-achingly gorgeous as well as an incredible thrill to drive — a life dream!
