Bricks are pretty standard when it comes to construction – they’re all the same size and shape, and you can always count on each one being just about identical to the next one. That fascination led Swedish designer Jenny Nordberg to create her latest work, BRICK, which reimagines the idea you have in your head about that earthy colored building material. BRICK is a pair of candle holders, designed for Swedish Ninja, that are hand cast out of glass in the exact same measurements of a traditional brick. Other than the measurements, nothing else in these sculptural candle holders is standard.
Hand cast in a small Italian glass shop, some of the “bricks” are curved in shape, while others remain as rectangular blocks. They’re then assembled in Sweden and capped off with a raw metal cup that holds the candle.
Jenny Nordberg launched BRICK at this week’s London Design Fair at the Old Truman Brewery.
