A Modern Apartment Brought Back to its Original Industrial Structure

A Modern Apartment Brought Back to its Original Industrial Structure

Inspired by the “form follows function” concept, KC design studio renovated this Taipei apartment by stripping it back to its industrial bones and removing all traces of decoration. The new design for the H Residence began with the basic structure that could build on with a focus on making its traffic flow flexible for better efficiency.

The homeowner desired two separate spaces, one private and the other public, with the private one having the option to be used as a large, single room or separated into smaller spaces to house a gym, dressing area, bathroom, and bedroom. The public area houses an open plan living room, kitchen, and dining area for increased family interactions.

They introduced a colorful folded plate structure on the ceiling helping to define the individual spaces, while also incorporating lights.

The designers intentionally used a combination of industrial and rustic elements, per the owner’s request, like dark, textured woods paired with shiny stainless steel.
