There’s a lot to be said for taking time over a project. Especially if you are planning on living with the results for many years. It takes time for a scheme to mature. For it to evolve over time, move slightly sideways sometimes, and to find just the right accessories to bring it to life. When I first started planning the redecoration of the master bedroom suite at home five months ago, it did feature quite a lot of pink. I had two new very bold prints from Posterlounge that I wanted to use and a lot of existing and quite eclectic furniture. A bohemian styled room was obviously the natural choice, with plants and basket ware added to my existing possessions. I was also planning black and white walls and a touch of black lace to make it a slightly decadent and romantic space.
By December I had my black and white walls. And with a new mattress in place from Sleepbear, and all my existing furniture positioned, things were really starting to take shape. You can see that post here if you need to keep up. The basics had been covered but I still needed to accessorise, to bring that original scheme to life. And as things evolved, one of the posters went to another room, and the pink was toned down somewhat. The other poster is missing from these images as I still need to do some work on the chest of drawers beneath it. As I said, there’s a lot to be said for taking your time.
So what have I been up to lately?
I found some black lace to hang between the bedroom and the dressing area. It just give a little bit of division and softness to what is actually quite a big room. It also has a practical purpose too. It’s hiding a radiator and zillion wall switches. I have to confess the jury is still out on it. The BF bizarrely loves it. I’m not altogether sure. Wasn’t it Coco Chanel who said that you should always take off the last piece of jewellery you added, before walking out of the door? Well, I think that black curtain is my last piece of jewellery.
By contrast, I am absolutely delighted with my new faux cheese plant from Blooming Artificial. It’s what you might call lush. Four feet high and bushy, it’s one of the best faux plants I’ve seen. And unlike a real plant I can move the branches around to close any gaps. In fact, at the top of the plant is a couple of bright green ‘new shoots’ emerging which adds to its realistic effect. It’s now sitting in a gold sequinned belly basket in a previously unloved corner, and is the first thing you see when entering the door. I love it.
I also love my new bedding from Christy. The black edging around luxurious white cotton coordinates perfectly with everything else in the room. It’s from a new range and I knew as soon as I saw it that it would be a better choice than pink. It looks very classy I think, and goes well with my old animal print bedcover and existing cushions.
Lastly, I’ve added some round sea grass mats. The room needed some more texture to soften the black and white scheme, and I needed something to reflect the belly basket in colour and material. They also cover up some of the large expanse of carpet that I’m not very fond of. And the dog likes them.
Now, be truthful. What do you think of the black lace curtain?
Collaborative post.
