This is not the first time I’ve written about hallways. Or the entryway if you’re from across the pond. My last hallways post was all about making a spectacular entrance by using wallpaper, a patterned stair runner, paint effects, lighting, and/or large mirrors among other things. But what if your hallway is tiny? Well, I can tell you that mine is the teeniest, tiniest of all. But I still have a console table, a mirror, some lighting (I don’t have room for a lamp so I have fairy lights), and a basket for hats and gloves. I consider these items the absolute essentials. We all need somewhere to drop our keys on entering and a mirror to re-touch our lipstick before leaving the house. And the basket is a godsend. And because I like it to look nice, there’s also a plant and some decorative things too. But just because you have a small space to play with, and I’ve convinced you that there are some pieces you just have to have, doesn’t mean it can’t be without style. Your style.
Scandinavian Style
Scandinavian style is all about minimalist, simple design. It should look light, airy, and devoid of any superfluous decoration. Blonde wood, a simple round mirror and a tripod lamp work perfectly. And the addition of a plant or two will bring the outside in.
Modern Country Style
Modern country style is completely unpretentious and eminently practical. Chunky wood, rustic elements, and a few nods to nature will all provide the right ingredients. This solid console table with a handy shelf, and a window shaped mirror form the basis of this look. The antler lamps with tartan shades complete it. A vase of garden flowers are the perfect finishing touch.
Industrial Style
As utilitarian as it gets. Industrial style is robust, hard-edged and perfectly suited to loft living as well as practical for busy family homes. No amount of hard knocks will dent a metal cabinet. And even if they do, it will look all the better for it. Factory lighting is ideal. There’s no room however for any frills or frippery. Even the cactus is chosen for it’s spiky demeanor.
Glitzy Glamorous Style
This glitzy style is unashamedly glamorous. If you want to go over the top, this is the style to choose. Luxurious finishes such as brass and marble are perfect. Embellishment is positively encouraged. Add a touch of black to bring it down to earth and bring the hothouse plants in from the greenhouse.
