A Striking Blue Kitchen With an Added Wow Factor

This bespoke, open-plan kitchen was designed by Mark Taylor Design for a Surrey based family. The clients had recently bought their four-bedroom, modern detached home but decided to re-design the kitchen to suit their needs. They wanted to create a space for all of the family to use as the main living area – including a kitchen with a large island for cooking, chatting and eating, and a TV/lounge area that opens out on to the garden. The result is a stunning space featuring cupboards painted in Little Greene Paint Company’s James shade, Calcutta marble worktops, and an island that has a unique shape with an angled copper base. The beautiful blue cupboards aside, there are a few features that we can definitely steal be inspired by.

Well, there’s no denying the wow factor here. It’s right there in front of you as soon as you walk through the door! The Bio Fire Box is digitally controlled and ignited remotely and is pre-programmed with six heat/flame settings. All of which can be adjusted with a remote control or a i-Pad.

Crittall Windows from the Hall to the Kitchen

Currently the most popular windows for most designer projects, and it’s easy to see why. The black metal frames are a thing of beauty and the perfect choice here. Not only do they flood the hall and kitchen with light. They also frame that gorgeous firebox too so that is can be seen before you even enter the room.

Copper has been the metal of choice for a long time now but this is the first shaped kitchen island I have seen in it. The angled base is quite inspired. Not only is it more interesting than the basic island shape, but it provides more room for knees and feet. No more telling the kids to ‘stop kicking’.

Industrial Elements

The metal bar-stools and factory pendant lights are also bang-on-trend. They provide contrast to the luxurious marble finish on the worktops and enforce the perception that this is a room for the entire family.

The Finer Details

And finally, the devil really is in the details. The oak plinths with concealed lighting, the dovetailed drawers and the cutlery and utensil dividers are all luxuries that will give pleasure for years to come.
