You only have to look at this lovely kitchen to know that it belongs to a chef. From the Falcon range cooker, to the copper pans hanging within arms reach, to the set of professional knives and go-to ingredients. It’s a kitchen designed for cooking. But the chef owner is also a fashionista so it’s not short on stunning style either. What a combination already! But bring in deVOL and a Sebastian Cox kitchen and you have all the ingredients of one of the most beautiful kitchens I’ve ever had the pleasure to share.
The kitchen and adjoining dining space is positioned in an extension to the main house. In fact the exterior Bath stone wall has been incorporated into the design and makes a warm statement. Add metal Crittall-style windows and you have the perfect combination of a rustic aesthetic and industrial style. All flooded with light from the vast expanses of glass.
The owners chose to keep the walls free from cupboards and instead opted for four rustic shelves that did not detract from the spectacular exposed stone wall. The English beech cabinets are band sawn to give a tactile textured finish and stained with a combination of Inky Blue Black and Natural dyes, a wash of colour that still allows the natural beauty of the wood to be seen. Both of these features emphasise the modern rustic aesthetic beautifully.
Added to this mix are chunky concrete worktops, contemporary fixtures, a sleek concrete floor and factory pendant lights over the island bringing to the fore the industrial feel.
The island housed the dishwasher, the sink and a pull out bin on one side with open and closed storage on the other a perfect spot for this family’s collection of cookery books and kitchenalia. The owner often hosts private dinners in this kitchen and who wouldn’t love to be invited to dinner?
