Introducing Emma Von Brömssen – Surface Pattern Designer

One of the most inspirational things on my recent trip to Sweden was meeting the designers, hoteliers, gardeners, chefs, shop owners, and restaurateurs who have a real passion for what they do. Each and every one of them was generous with imparting knowledge and sharing trade secrets and had us all enthralled with their own personal stories. Whether it was talking about the ingredients of a dish, the search for the perfect coffee, or the creative process behind a product.

One of the designers we met was Emma Von Brömssen. She very kindly agreed to give us a presentation of her work and talk about her patterns over breakfast at Bjertorp Castle. So while we enjoyed a Swedish breakfast in a beautiful art nouveau dining room, eating off Emma Von Brömssen porcelain, we listened entranced to her melodic voice.

Emma is an artist, first and foremost. But she is an artist that succeeds to interpret and transfer her unique expressions onto wallpapers and fabrics. Her drawings are exquisite and feature botanical patterns of vegetation and wildlife. These have become her signature. She is most inspired by nature, her garden and the countryside around her.  The proud winner of the Elle Decoration Swedish Design Award in 2016 she says  ”The patterns I create, are designed to become sustainable and classic.” The result is a personal and bold design with a Scandinavian touch.

Emma mostly works on private commissions for companies such as Svenskt Tenn, Sandberg Wallpaper, House of Rym – to name but a few that we might know – but she has a web shop where you can buy cushions, posters and cards.

I was a guest of The West Sweden Tourist Board for this visit, but all views, and images unless otherwise credited, are my own.
