You may already know of Rockett St George. You certainly will if you read my blog often enough. It’s one of my favourite websites for finding quirky, glamorous and unusual products for the home. If you love to stand out from the crowd and decorate with objects, furniture and lighting that you won’t see anywhere else, you’ll love Rockett St George. In fact a bit of background – Lucy St George and Jane Rockett came up with the idea for their own online shop while on holiday together. Their unerring eye for the unusual, and their recognisable aesthetic (they were probably the first webshop to use black as a background colour) made them a success with the press and interior designers alike. And me. And now they spend much of their time travelling and seeking new inspiration, new artists, and new products. Dream job eh?
So, I had high expectations for their first book, Extraordinary Interiors. But worry not. It is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous.
In this book, Jane and Lucy share their insights and expertise on what it takes to create a show-stopping home. All of the homes featured are so inspirational they will stop you in your tracks and make sure you not only flick through the pages but go backwards and forwards, time and time again.
But it’s not just a book full of pretty pictures. There is some sound advice too. There are sections on finding inspiration, analysing a space, choosing paint colours and wallpaper, arranging and styling furniture, finding the right lighting, showing off treasures, and making style statements that will reflect your own personality.
And it’s all delivered in a chatty, conversational tone with plenty of humour that makes you feel as if you have Lucy and Jane in your living room with you. Think of it not as a ‘this is how you do it’ book, but rather a ‘this is how you could do it if you were completely fearless’ book. Whether you’re new to setting up a home or a seasoned pro looking for inspiration you’ll find plenty to get your teeth into. I’m currently obsessing about new paint colours, wallpaper and breaking the piggy bank so I can buy some new Rockett St George accessories by the way.
Have I whetted your appetite. Good. Put it on your Christmas list. Buy it for your girlfriends. They’ll love it.
