Let’s face it. Not many of us have pools, let alone a pool house. English Summers are not conducive to spending hard earned cash on a swimming pool that can only be used for a handful of days a year. But if I did have a pool (you know when my lottery numbers finally come up, like) it would be a pool like this. Big enough to do laps in or course. No point in having a pool without a reason to use it for actual exercise. With a perfect pool house just like this one designed by Stephanie Dunning.
The log burner is from Dinghams.
And it is pretty much near perfect.
Inside, there are squishy sofas either side of a wood burner – for those not so perfect days. Imagine putting your feet up here after a splash, surrounded by natural light with stunning views of the surrounding garden and landscape beyond. In fact, this pool house isn’t just a place to dry off after a dip in the water; inside it’s also outfitted with a cooking and dining area for whole days of Summer lounging.
The kitchen units are painted in Lamp Room Grey from Farrow & Ball and were hand-built by The English Joinery Company.
A pair of lamps were sourced from Graham & Green and sit atop a console table from Scumble Goosie.
Bespoke horizontal wood planking lends a cabin feel to the comfortable seating area which opens on to wood decking. The bespoke sofas were created by SDID and covered in an Ian Mankin stripe. Cushions are by Inky Velvet.
The oak frame building is surrounded by hornbeam hedging and there is a perfect spot for al fresco dining. The wicker outdoor furniture is by OKA. The glass panel doors are painted in Pidgeon by Farrow & Ball. And the hand-crafted planters are filled with box balls and lavender.
Hand crafted by The English Joinery Company and simply, comfortably styled in a muted palette, Stephanie’s client wanted an ideal summer space for a growing family, where sport and leisure take everyone out of the main house. And I think that’s exactly what they got.
