What weekends are for. A short trip to one of the most famous Christmas markets in Europe and a chance to wander the beautiful medieval town of Bruges. It was my first visit and it won’t be my last. Pretty little cobbled streets, red tiled roofs, canals, and tempting shop windows greeted us and the more we explored the more enchanted we became. A perfect place to wander. To shop. To act like a tourist and take a horse drawn carriage ride, or a trip down the waterways on a boat. To take your time. There’s absolutely no rush. So eat a waffle, drink a warm gluhwein and take it all in.
The Christmas market (from November 25th to 1st January) is situated on Market Square and on Simon Stevinplein where there is also an ice rink. It’s mostly food stalls in the latter but on market square you can buy gifts, cheeses, pates, jewellery, woolly hats and toys.
