House of Fluctuations by Satoru Hirota Architects

House of Fluctuations by Satoru Hirota Architects

House of Fluctuations is a minimal home located in Tokyo, Japan, designed by Satoru Hirota Architects. The site of the single-family home has many restrictions, including a height restriction, limiting any vertical increases in volume.

As a result, the neighborhood is densely populated, and maintaining privacy became the main concern for the architects. The architects decided to adjust the position and size of the entrance by creating a concrete opening that partially blocks the main residence. In addition, the opening created a unique sense of variety to the appearance of the home.

The interior features double height ceilings within the main living area, providing the space with additional natural lighting and visual transparency from the upper level. The space between the frontage barrier and the main volume serves as an internal courtyard, providing residents with a view of a garden instead of the main street.
