A Luxurious Holiday Home Nestled Among The Pines With Spectacular Views

A Luxurious Holiday Home via Unique Home Stays

I do love to browse the latest properties on the Unique Home Stays site. You can always find a romantic love nest, a get-away-from-it-all cottage, or a ultra modern home with spectacular views. And that’s just for starters. I would happily swap my own home for any one of them! There’s no doubt that a week at one of their fabulous holiday homes would be a unique experience and an escape from day to day life.

This particular home is above the quaint cove of Polperro, on the south east of Cornwall. Surrounded by large Monterey pines, it overlooks the sea and is only accessible by quad bike or a footpath. Starting life as an army hut in nearby Whitsand Bay, Raffia (as it’s known) was dismantled and lowered onto the cliff face, using a zip-wire lift to transport every last joist, rafter and panel. Now, a beachy, Scandinavian style creates a relaxed interior, framed by floor-to-ceiling glass which leads to a wooden deck overlooking the glistening ocean below. See what I mean? Who wouldn’t enjoy a few days here?

There are three bedrooms in all. Two double bedroom suites and a twin bedroom. Each bedroom is large and luxurious, with floor to ceiling windows and washed oak floors, giving them a log cabin feel. But I bagsy the one on the ground floor which opens out onto the open-plan living space. It’s near the woodburning stove and would mean just a few steps from the comfy seating area to the bed. Not that you’d be cold. There’s underfloor heating throughout.

The wooden deck hangs over the harbour mouth of the quaint fishing village below, which has a lost-in-time appeal one can’t help but fall in love with. You’d never tire of that view, and just in case it gets chilly there are blankets to wrap up in. And there will be no other distractions as there is no television or wifi. Guests have no other choice but to relax and embrace the indoor/outdoor lifestyle. And there’s nothing wrong with that. We could all do with uplugging every now and again.

If you can tear your eyes away from the spectacular view, the inside is just as captivating. There is a wood cabin meets Scandinavian vibe going on, with lots of blonde wood, leggy furniture, rattan, and warm, woolly textures. Add to that a few mid-century pieces that elevate the interior to something just that bit more sophisticated. The colour palette is restrained with lots of grey and only the odd stripe or geometric pattern appearing, with the emphasis firmly on texture and natural materials.
