Reasons to Choose Plantation Shutters for Your Windows

Plantation shutters

It’s three years since I chose the window treatments for my own home from Plantation Shutters, and I can honestly say I’m as happy with my choice now, as I was then. They were the obvious solution for a new build house with smallish symmetrical windows after all. And that has been borne out by the fact that so many of my neighbours have gone down the same route. But there are many reasons why I’d make the same choice all over again, even if I decided to move to a different style of house.

Suitability and Style

As I’ve said, they suited my small windows. When you need to let in as much light as possible you don’t want anything that is going to obstruct it. But also, they suit all types of property from period to modern houses. Edwardian and Victorian facades look stunning with shutters behind casement windows. And modern houses tend to look more Scandinavian in style when white wooden slats are used. They are smarter than blinds, and less fussy than curtains. And as they are made-to-measure even the problem with what to do with a large bay window is easily solved. I’ve chosen white for their classic good looks but you can choose from a selection of materials, and a large range of colours or wood stains.

Practicality

Once plantation shutters are installed, there is absolutely no maintenance required. The also fit inside the window recess, so they are out of the way. And they have no cords which have a bit of a safety issue when small children are around. I just know that mine are going to last for many years to come. Cleaning wise all they need is a quick dust once a week and an occasional wash with warm soapy water. They won’t fade or discolour. And they’ll never need to be taken down and taken to the cleaners.

Light Control

Now this is where shutters really come into their own. As you can have the top and bottom halves working independently you have complete control over how much light and sunlight comes into the room. During summer there is no better way to provide protection against the sun’s glare, keeping out the heat while still letting in light and air. On a personal note my office gets the morning sun and with blinds I’d have to sit in complete darkness in order to see the computer screen. But with shutters I can close just the bit that’s needed, and don’t need to miss out on all those glorious rays.

Privacy

This is another advantage of having shutters. You can close the bottom half for privacy and still let in light from the top. I tend to do this at dusk when you need to light the lamps inside but don’t want prying eyes peering in. Or in the morning when I’m still walking round in my pj’s.

Stunning Looks

There’s no doubt about it, plantation shutters are simply beautiful to look at. Elegant, stylish, simple in design, and the perfect solution wherever you may live.
