Introducing our latest OTHR exclusive preview: the dynamic and eye-catching Stryk by RIT professor Josh Owen, crafted in 3D printed steel.
A match striker sturdy enough for the hearth and elegant enough for the dinner table, Stryk is unencumbered by traditional fabrication or mold-making.
With no trace of the casting process to complicate the object’s visual identity, the idea is manifested in a near-pure utility. The multi-faceted vessel features a striking surface as well as a safe deposit for spent matches. Historically, match disposal has been left up to the user; here the full life cycle of the match is accounted for.
Award-winning designer Josh Owen grew up in Ithaca, NY, a small town in New York State dominated by beautiful natural landscapes. He spent the formative years of his professional life in more urban contexts, gravitating towards Philadelphia and New York City. Now, Josh is an author, professor, president of his eponymous design studio and Chair of the Industrial Design program at RIT.
