Cabinets Inspired by the Agave Plant and the Making of Mezcal

Cabinets Inspired by the Agave Plant and the Making of Mezcal

As the craft cocktail industry has taken off, have you noticed mezcal rising in popularity as well? It seems to be popping up everywhere in the U.S. and probably all over as the tequila adjacent beverage is delicious in our drinks, but have you ever thought about where it came from? Héctor Esrawe and Manuel Bañó, of Esrawe Studio, looked to the tradition of the mezcal culture and the unique way it’s made when it came time to design The Agave Collection.

Every batch of mezcal is different based on the region it’s made, their method, and what kind of agave is used. Wanting to pay homage to the age-old process, Esrawe Studio created a trio of cabinets that are handmade by artisans, meaning they’ll each have slight variations in them, much like mezcal. The notches carved out of the doors reference the grooves found in the heart of the agave plant, known as the piña.

The cabinets are made of wood and brass and the studio reached out to Ceramica Suro to produce a collection of porcelain objects that are often used when consuming mezcal.
