Or come to it, string lights, candles, lanterns or night-lights either. There’s always a place for decorative lighting in any interior scheme in my view, and those little extra touches can make or break a room. I’m probably not the only one who is reluctant to take down the lights after Christmas is over. And sometimes, (keep it to yourselves) I just leave them up. But choose wisely. Pink love hearts are probably best kept in the nursery. The following ideas however, can be used all year round.

Add a Bit of Sparkle to Shelves

It’s an old interior design trick to add a light above or below shelves to highlight collections. A bit old fashioned now if I’m honest, although still used to throw some ambient light along the top of cupboards. Much more appealing and pretty is the addition of a string of tiny fairly lights. Especially when they are casually styled and paired with some lovely houseplants. No need for an electrician to install these either. Use Fairy Lights as an Alternative to a Nightlight in the Bedroom

Not that I’m saying you might be scared of the dark. But the soft glow emanating from these natural handspun looking cotton ball fairy lights would be very calming as you potter round the bedroom. Use String Lights as an Alternative to a Central Pendant Light or a Table Lamp

Sometimes string lights can be a convenient alternative to a central pendant or a table lamp. No special wiring is needed and you can plug them into any socket and trail the lights where you need them. At home we have a decent sized landing but the builders failed to consider we might like to put a table lamp there, so there is no socket. Add Some Atmosphere to a Shady Garden Pergola

Another idea I’m going to definitely use. We don’t have any wiring for lights in our garden and our pergola could definitely do with some illumination. Not enough to read by. Never Enough Candles, Lanterns and Tea-Lights

Isn’t it just so true? They light up all the forgotten corners and add a twinkle to every surface.
